چکیده
Methylisothiazolinone (MI) (CAS no. 2682-20-4) and methylchloroisothiazolinone (MCI) (CAS no. 26172-55-4) have been widely used as preservatives in cosmetics, household products and industrial products since the late 1970s. The first cases of contact allergy to the MCI/MI combination were noted in 1980 (1). Ironing water is being increasing used as a product designed to making ironing more enjoyable. The role of ironing water is to bring a fresh, outdoorsy fragrance to the ironing process; it is also claimed that these products smooth away creases, and protect the iron from limescale. We report four cases of allergic contact dermatitis caused byMCI/MI found in ironingwater, anusual source of exposure. There has been only a single previous case report in the literature (2).

The hazards of moist toilet paper: allergy to the preservative methylchloroisothiazolinone/methylisothiazolinone.
BACKGROUND Methylchloroisothiazolinone/methylisothiazolinone (MCI/MI), a common preservative in some brands of moist toilet paper (baby wipes and moist towelettes), has been reported to be a cause of allergic contact dermatitis. However, few cases have been reported in the United States. OBSERVATIONS We report the cases of 4 adult patients with severe perianal and perineal allergic contact de...

BACKGROUND A few cases on primary sensitization by, and occupational contact dermatitis from, methylisothiazolinone in paints and glues have been published. In cosmetics, methylisothiazoline (MI) is permitted in a concentration of 100 p.p.m., while 15 p.p.m. for the mixture of methylchloroisothiazolinone and methylisothiazoline (MCI/MI). OBJECTIVES To present cases of sensitization to, and al...
متن کاملMethylisothiazolinone: second 'epidemic' of isothiazolinone sensitization.
Isothiazolinones are used as biocides in a wide variety of products, such as cosmetics, detergents, and industrial products. In the 1980s, a formulation with methylchloroisothiazolinone (MCI) and methylisothiazolinone (MI) was responsible for an allergic contact dermatitis ‘epidemic’. To control this phenomenon, a maximum allowed dose was set. However in 2005, MI alone was introduced in cosmeti...

MCI: methylchloroisothiazolinone MI: methylisothiazolinone INTRODUCTION Methylisothiazolinone and methylchloroisothiazolinone (MI/MCI) are broad-spectrum preservatives widely used in cosmetics and household and industrial products. It is well known that MI/MCI can cause allergic contact dermatitis with a spongiotic reaction pattern. Because of this reaction, restrictions have been placed on the...
متن کاملUpdate on allergic contact dermatitis due to methylchloroisothiazolinone/methylisothiazolinone and methylisothiazolinone.
The combination of methylchloroisothiazolinone (MCI) and methylisothiazolinone (MI) is widely used as a preservative in cosmetics, household, and industrial products. Furthermore, MI at a concentration of 100 ppm has been permitted in cosmetic products since 2005. Recently, a considerable increase in cases of contact dermatitis to both MCI and MI have been noted, and this warrants closer monito...
